The interior architects Jose Pedro Lopes Vieira and Diogo Rosa Là, in collaboration with renowned architect Alvaro Siza Vieira and with the support of the Palace’s owners, UNICER, worked diligently to recapture and surpass Vidago Palace’s splendour.
With 70 rooms & suites, guests can be assured of an exclusive experience while indulging in the many facilities Vidago Palace has to offer yet only 1 hr away from Porto airport by our limousine.
Commissioned by King Carlos of Portugal in 1908, Vidago Palace was originally conceived as an opulent holiday residence for His Majesty and his entourage, who, since the late 1800s, had been regular visitors to the region in order to enjoy the therapeutic effects of Vidago's famed mineral waters.
In 1936, Vidago Palace was further enhanced by the opening of a 9 hole golf course, designed by the great Scottish golf course architect, Philip Mackenzie Ross. In combination with the Palace building’s impressive architecture (the combined effort of Miguel Ventura Terra, completed by António Rodrigues da Silva Júnior) the lush scenery and the purportedly curative properties of its mineral water spa, Vidago Palace has continued to attract visitors year on year.
Today there is a championship golf course at Vidago and several others all within driving distance or we can arrange transportation for you.
The nearby Douro Valley is the home of port wine, where hills covered with vined-terraces fall steeply down to river banks, and placards bearing world famous names such as Taylors, Cockburns and Sandeman are commonplace. Visits to vineyards and cellars and can be happily arranged to the delight of aficionados.
