Frilford’s oldest and most prestigious course, the Red was laid out in 1908 by JH Taylor, the five times Open Champion. Taylor may be less well known as a course designer than his fellow member of the Great Triumvirate, James Braid, but his track record is impressive. He was among the first course designers to build substantial artifical features on a course, at Royal Mid-Surrey,

and along with his design partner Fred Hawtree, he played an important role in the creation of Royal Birkdale, often voted Britain’s top course. The Red was later tweaked by long-time club professional JH Turner, but in essence, it remains Taylor’s course, one of only a small number still remaining designed by one of golf’s legendary figures.

The Oxfordshire is one of the most exciting golf courses we have in the country, a pristine American-style parkland course that offers the ultimate tactical challenge across water. The strategically contoured holes blend naturally into the surrounding countryside to provide a challenging game of golf. With four lakes and 135 bunkers, the course makes full use of the terrain and the natural elements to provide characteristics similar to those of a links course.

Since opening The Oxfordshire has been host to major European tournaments like the Benson and Hedges International and the British Women’s Open, with an enviable list of winners such as Colin Montgomery, Darren Clarke and Bernhard Langer. This has helped to create a very high reputation among golfers and enthusiasts.

The Oxfordshire offers a luxurious clubhouse and also has a conference facility for 200+ people, a restaurant with a fantastic reputation, a lounge bar, a spike bar.
