Although the course doesn't sit exactly adjacent to the coastline, there are a few sea breezes to consider when playing this links, heathland mixture.
Since 1984, Scotscraig has hosted the Final Open Qualifying when The Open is played over St Andrews. When the Open returned to St Andrews in 2010, Scotscraig once again hosted Final Open Qualifying.
Ian Baker-Finch, Brian Barnes, Justin Rose, Mark Mouland, Duffy Waldorf and Sam Torrance are only a few of the famous players to have graced this renowned classic Fife course.
2. Downfield golf club, recognized as one of the finest inland courses in the UK.
Downfield Golf Club played host to prestigious competitions. Including the first ever Scottish Open, the World Seniors Matchplay, the very famous Benson and Hedges International event, Scottish PGA Masters, Scottish Boys Stroke Play, Scottish Amateur and was a qualifying course when Carnoustie hosted the open in 1999 and 2007.
Set in scenic parkland, Dundee’s premier course is a challenge to every golfer teeing off at the par 4 first and moving round the rolling contours of the course offers a variety of challenges to every golfer regardless of his or her ability.
3. Panmure Golf club, situated between the Courses of Monifieth and Carnoustie
On the east coast of Scotland this James Braid designed Golf Course is approximately 8 miles from Dundee.
When Ben Hogan came to Carnoustie in the summer of 1953 he was already holder of The Masters" and "The U.S. Open Championship". For this, his only (British) Open Championship appearance, arrangements were made for him to practice at Panmure GC., just two miles to the west, but well away from the busy practice ground at Carnoustie. Although not exceptionally long by today's standards, Panmure requires accurate driving and iron play. In addition the greens are generally small with subtle borrows developed over more than 100 years of play.
